Wrigley Field Renovation

The Cubs have made some serious renovations to the Friendly Confines this off-season. One of the major additions is the batting cages underneath the right field bleachers. This hitting area will be equipped with one-way glass that allows fans to watch players hit off of the tees and see live pitching. The one-way glass also allows fans to take pictures without disrupting the players in the cage. Also, they are making renovations to the restrooms at the concourse level to make more room to eliminate long lines. That should make the beer flow more now that Cub Crazies won't have to wait as long in line for a spot in the bathroom.

Cubs Offseason Acquisitions

OK, looking back at the 2009 season for the Chicago Cubs, it was dismal at best. Both Kevin Gregg and Milton Bradley turned out to be huge busts and cost the club a TON of money. I can only hope that with them gone, the Cubs will be better off. In addition, Chicago has been very active in the off-season nabbing some big names from free agency to sure up their roster. The Cubs acquired both Xavier Nady and Marlon Byrd in January due to free agency. I personally like the move because it gives the outfield some depth. This will allow the Cubs to use Nady sparingly and that will help them because Nady is coming off of Tommy John surgery in July. Nady brings a strong bat with him to the Cubs, after an impressive 2008 season featuring a .305 batting average and 97 RBI's.
Minus the surgery, the same can be said for Marlon Bryd. In a 3-year stint with the Rangers, Bryd averaged .296 at the plate and totalled 40 home runs and 212 RBI's. Both Bryd and Nady can play just about any outfield position and can help a team with both their gloves and their bats. The only question that remains is, what will skipper Lou Piniella do as far as getting them both on the field at the same time? All I can say is that I hope these two do not follow the Gregg and Bradley road.
